Praflo10Hello everyone, I am currently planning to get an Ikea Pax wardrobe system and want to set it up as efficiently as possible for storing clothes. I am especially interested in how to organize the interior to store both summer and winter clothing in a clear and space-saving way.
I am looking for specific tips on combining hanging rods, shelves, drawers, and possibly accessories like hooks or wardrobe lighting. It would also be helpful to know how to make the best use of the wardrobe depth without making access difficult.
Additionally, it would be great if someone has experience with optimal layouts for limited space, as I only have about 150 cm (60 inches) of width available. Are there proven solutions for separating clothing categories (e.g. shirts, trousers, coats) or special recommendations for storing accessories?
I look forward to your ideas and advice!

Also, it would be great if someone has experience with optimal layout in limited space, as I only have about 150 cm (59 inches) width available. This is a key limitation that significantly affects the design. With 150 cm (59 inches) width, I recommend a two-part Pax combination in 50 + 100 cm (20 + 39 inches) to stay flexible and allow for various interior configurations.
Here is a detailed layout suggestion:
- Left (50 cm / 20 inches): shelves and drawers only; ideal for folded shirts, pants, and smaller textiles. Drawers with inserts for underwear, socks, or accessories.
- Right (100 cm / 39 inches): two hanging rods, top one for shorter garments like shirts and blouses, lower one for pants or skirts.
- At the very top, a sturdy shelf for seasonal storage or infrequently used items.
- You can also add fold-down trouser hangers on the lower rod to use space efficiently.
- Complement the setup with small side hooks for belts and scarves.
I recommend LED strip lighting to illuminate even the lower areas well, which greatly improves visibility.
Please let me know if you need more hanging space or shelving so I can adjust the suggestions accordingly.

Here is a detailed design suggestion:The proposal using a 50 + 100 cm (20 + 40 inches) combination is a proven practical solution that provides storage variety. It is important to consider how often items are used when planning: frequently worn clothing should be placed on easily accessible shelves or in drawers, while less frequently used items can be stored higher up.
- The lower hanging rod for long garments such as coats should be installed at about 140–150 cm (55–59 inches) height.
- Drawers can be equipped with divided inserts for socks, ties, or jewelry to keep things organized.
- Sliding doors are recommended for optimal use of space when the room layout requires it.
To make the most efficient use of depth (approximately 58 cm (23 inches) in the Pax system), there are interior fittings available that include three-quarter hanging rods with a swivel mechanism for easy access. These are usually offered by third-party suppliers rather than directly by Ikea.
Overall, it is important to tailor the functions to your own habits and avoid overcrowding every centimeter.
For efficient use of Ikea Pax units in limited space, it is best to aim for a balanced combination of hanging and flat storage areas.
- Install clothes rails for hanging garments at about 150 cm (59 inches) height.
- Use shelves or drawers for folded clothes and accessories.
- Attach hooks inside for belts or scarves.
This way, everything stays organized and easily accessible.

My main concern is how to organize the interior layout to store both summer and winter clothing neatly and space-efficiently.In this context, it makes sense to separate clothing by season and store it systematically:
- Store summer clothes on the lower levels or in drawers, as these are often folded.
- Hang winter coats and heavy jackets on the upper or middle garment rods.
Additionally, I recommend reserving at least one drawer with inserts for smaller accessories.

Install hooks inside for belts or scarves.I agree with this; it improves organization and prevents small items from getting lost.
Furthermore, the modular Pax system allows for individual customization, which should be tailored to your personal clothing habits during planning.
