Hello everyone,
I am currently planning a new wardrobe and am particularly interested in the Ikea PAX series. I have noticed that integrating lighting inside the wardrobe can play an important role in improving visibility and usability.
My specific question is: Are there any Ikea PAX variants, meaning models or versions, that come factory-equipped or at least as an option with built-in lighting? I am not just looking for simple LED strips that need to be purchased separately and installed but for actual PAX variants that include lighting as a standard feature or where lighting is firmly integrated or directly designed by the manufacturer.
If anyone has experience or recommendations—also tips on how to realistically and easily retrofit lighting if such variants do not exist—I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your support!

Hello Ludger43,
you’re touching on an issue that many people are concerned about. I have a PAX wardrobe myself, and the lighting is truly invaluable, especially when it gets dark early outside.
As far as I know, there are no direct PAX versions with integrated lighting. Ikea does offer various LED strips and lighting solutions as accessories that are very easy to install – but these are usually not a built-in part of the model itself.
That can sometimes be frustrating because you want an all-in-one solution that is perfectly coordinated from the start. On the other hand, I find the accessories quite well thought out and flexible.
If you like, I can gladly share my experiences with retrofit solutions that work well for me.

Hey Ludger43,
I planned something similar myself, and the lighting in the PAX wardrobe initially confused me as well.
In short: Ikea sells the PAX wardrobe series without built-in lighting. This means the lighting is meant more as an accessory that you add and install yourself.
But hey, this also has advantages – for example, you can choose LED strips with motion sensors or dimmable lights, exactly to your taste and needs! Very easy to install and super practical.
So: Don’t worry, the wardrobe is basically a blank canvas—you can create your own personal lighting setup 😄!

Are they simply mounted with clips or adhesive strips? And how is the power supply managed, especially for wardrobes that are not located near an electrical outlet?
I’m interested both in handling details and any possible disadvantages – such as what to watch out for during installation.
Regarding lighting in PAX wardrobes, I can add the following: Ikea offers a lighting system called "Ansluta" as an accessory, which is specifically designed for PAX and other furniture.
- The LED strips are magnetic and can be easily attached and removed.
- There are both battery-powered versions and those that plug into an electrical outlet.
- Motion sensors are integrated – the lights automatically turn on when the wardrobe door is opened.
- I find the cable management inside the wardrobe particularly practical, as Ikea either pre-installs it or at least prepares it well.
One drawback is that these solutions come at an additional cost and still require some effort for installation. Nevertheless, it remains one of the best options for PAX if you want built-in lighting.
