julian11329 Dec 2023 12:51Hello everyone,
for our small spiral staircase, we would like to add a railing or fall protection. The challenge is that mounting a railing on top of the floor is likely quite difficult, as there is approximately 8cm (3 inches) of screed and 8cm (3 inches) of insulation beneath our floor covering. I don’t think fixing the posts directly into the screed would be stable enough.
So, I see two options: anchoring the posts into the concrete below (which is 18cm (7 inches) of reinforced concrete) – a surface-mounted installation that would probably require screws and anchors at least 20cm (8 inches) long – or mounting the railing on the side of the staircase.
What are your thoughts? Is surface mounting possible at all with special screws and anchors? The advantage here is that there is a suitable railing available matching the spiral staircase (Dolle). A side-mounted railing wouldn’t match exactly and would probably be installed a bit lower.
I’m looking forward to your input. Thank you very much! 🙂
I have attached a photo of the staircase during construction.

For a side-mounted installation, there is no precisely fitting railing,Then go to a metalworker and have one custom-made for a small amount of money. That’s how I would do it at least.H
