ᐅ The well pumps properly, but there is hardly any pressure on the garden irrigation system.

Hello everyone!

I have a well in the garden, and the submersible pump (6.2 bar) pumps very powerfully, so that from a depth of 15 meters (49 feet) a strong jet of water comes out of the hose (the hose extends about 1 meter (3 feet) above ground from the well shaft).

When I connect this hose to the newly installed Gardena pipeline system throughout the garden, some pressure seems to build up inside, as the valves close noticeably quickly. However, not much water comes out of my 5 water outlets. When I connect a 1/2-inch hose, the flow is just very weak.

Now I wonder whether I should look for a leak somewhere in the pipeline system or if the pressure simply drops so much over the distance that very little reaches the individual outlets?

What do you think is more likely?

Who can help? Thanks!

I suspect a bottleneck. I am pumping from a depth of 12 meters (40 feet), running about 30 meters (100 feet) around the house through the Gardena laying pipe, and then another 30 meters (100 feet) onto a hose reel. The nozzle still produces a 10-meter (33-foot) jet when I want it to. So I can’t imagine the distance is the issue.

Try flushing it in reverse.

Otherwise, you’ll have to work your way through it in segments…

Exactly…
-test individual lines
-does the setup work when you connect it to an outdoor faucet / garden tap?
-what counts as a strong flow? Can you connect a 30m (100 ft) hose and a handheld nozzle there? Does water come out with sufficient pressure?
-sketch the setup
-pump type/model?
-…

Did you connect all 6 boxes at the same time or use a 6-way splitter?

Gardena says you should use one box per sprinkler. I also had 6, but was able to reduce it to 2 boxes or a duo controller. With 6 boxes, the pressure at the sprinklers was too low. They came on, but only dripped water.

Many thanks for the tips. Deliverer’s experience encouraged me last night that it wasn’t due to a cable being too long. So I actually checked the route step by step and was very lucky: I found a kink after a short distance. Replaced that section – boom – now it works. I’m happy. Thanks!
PS: Really great forum!
Have a nice week!

The garden pipes are expensive and rather soft. It is better to use HDPE (potable water pipe). For a standard garden size, go straight to DN32. DN25 reduces a lot of pressure and flow. Congratulations that it is working now.
