Hello,

we need to decide on the front door for our new build.

We can choose between:

A door with a 5-point locking system (standard)

or a door with a 3-point automatic locking system (extra cost of 160€) that automatically locks itself but can always be opened from the inside.

The disadvantage of the 3-point automatic locking is that it only has 3 locking bolts instead of 5.

The advantage is that the door is always locked, so you don’t have to remember to lock it.

Has anyone had experience with the automatic locking system?

Which door would you recommend?

The previous owner of our apartment installed a panic lock on the front door. I was not familiar with it before, but I find it extremely convenient and would definitely choose the same solution again. However, this is an apartment door in a multi-family building, so I have no experience with main entrance doors for houses.

You mean the triple automatic locking system?

I also find that comfortable because you don’t have to think about whether you’ve locked the door or not (especially when going on vacation).

With an automatic locking system, do you no longer need to lock the door manually?

Second question: would a smart lock like, for example, Nuki work with the triple automatic locking system?

Is a triple locking system sufficient?

Downside of the triple automatic locking is that only 3 bolts lock instead of 5

Advantage is the door is always locked and you don’t have to remember to lock it.

I believe the GU-SECURY Automatic is being offered here. The three bolts are not really a disadvantage. The door remains securely locked, but can always be opened with a key from both sides.

No, you don’t necessarily have to, but you still can. For insurance purposes, a door equipped with the GU-SECURY Automatic is considered locked once it is closed because the bolts extend about 2cm (1 inch).

No differently than with any other cylinder lock.

Yes, for insurance it is sufficient. Generally, it is also enough to deter burglars. Most tend to target windows anyway, as they are easier to break into than the front door.

That’s correct; it is always locked automatically. You only need the key to unlock the door when you come home.

You might want to consider how this works with small children, as you may not want them to be able to unlock the door from the inside on their own. Unfortunately, I don’t know how automatic locks for front doors handle this.

@Pacmansh In the worst case, just lock the door to the hallway 😀 it’s only for a few years

@Mycraft I will check at home to see the exact name of the system
