Hello everyone,
We bought a house in the Reutlingen district last year, and now it’s time to work on the garden and outdoor areas. They are currently in a completely unfinished state.

We had a landscape architect create a plan for us. Now we would like to know roughly how much this might cost (excluding the pool!). I understand it’s difficult to provide an exact figure, but a ballpark estimate like $50,000, $75,000, or $150,000 would be enough as a starting point.

Thank you very much!

Ground plan of a garden with house, garage, pool, terrace, and trees.

Only if you have provided her with the necessary information, or if she obtained the details from the building authority. Although in densely built-up areas it is not uncommon for the floor area ratio including ancillary structures to be up to 0.8, it should be verified before a neighbor reports it to the building authority.
Thanks for the advice. We had actually submitted all the documents, but I will follow up on that again.

Where could costs be saved?

Removing the pool – instantly 70,000 less.

But seriously, looking at the overall picture. Which walls are necessary? Standard steps or a floating design? A tree at a height of 3.5m (11.5 ft) in a corten steel planter or a tree at 1.8m (6 ft) within a lawn edging stone border, paving at €50 net or €25 net.
It sounds trivial, but it all adds up.

P.S.: I like the plan; overall, I think it’s very nicely designed.

Sounds silly, but it’s about the overall total.

Yes, the pool is definitely something. But I specifically asked without a pool. I’m aware of the extra cost for that. So was your estimate with or without it?

Thanks, we like the plan too; now it’s about optimizing and assessing the costs.

Yes, the zoning is very nice (although I’m not a big fan of pools in smaller gardens). If I won the lottery, I would probably hire a professional garden designer right away. And I’d arrange a maintenance contract so I would only have to prune the roses occasionally. 🙂

I’m aware that this is clearly an additional cost. So, was your estimate including it or not?

It was without, although the question is of course what you replace the area with.

Have you considered lighting/electrical work? Usually, you don’t install something like this without outdoor lighting, etc. That also costs a few euros.

I suspected as much… So just grass for now (only as an estimate), alternatively we had considered planning a wooden sun deck.

Yes, indirect lighting within the planting is planned.
