Hello,

we are almost finished with all the planning. Only the lighting for the open living and dining area is still causing some uncertainty.

We are not sure if the number of fixtures is sufficient. You can see our current plan in the attachment. All the lights will be dimmable.
Do you think this is enough, or should we include additional spotlights?
Floor plan of a living room with TV, pendant lights, floor lamp, dining table, and wall lights.

The dimensions of the room are 4.7m x 9.2m (15.4 ft x 30.2 ft).

How would you possibly design the lighting differently (for example, adding spotlights as general lighting)?
At the top right of the picture, the open kitchen connects, which is planned with spotlights.

I would plan for some additional lighting near the TV. Either two wall lamps or spotlights, or perhaps a floor or table lamp. I would not recommend ceiling spotlights, as they do not provide comfortable living room lighting. If the lamps shown have enough brightness at full dimmer setting, they will be sufficient as general lighting for cleaning every corner.

Our layout in the kitchen/living/dining area is very similar.

For lighting in this room, we have:
- General lighting with daylight LEDs in the kitchen, dining room, and living room. This lighting is important because it is the only one that makes the room bright enough for cleaning, assembling something, ironing, etc. However, we rarely use it.
- Task lighting under wall cabinets (LED strip, bright) and over the kitchen island for working (LED spotlights, bright) in the kitchen.
- LED strip in the recess of the kitchen island and LED strip under the floating TV cabinet. This lighting is fantastic, and overall we use it the most. Glare-free, very cozy ambient light.
- Pendant light over the kitchen island for cozy lighting when the kitchen area should be a bit brighter than just the indirect ambient light, or individually, for example, when we’re sitting on the terrace in the evening and occasionally need to enter the kitchen.
- Pendant light over the dining table for meals.
- Pendant light over the coffee table.

Just a suggestion...

Best regards

Modern open living space with TV wall, white furniture, open kitchen in the background, table with candles.

If the fireplace were on the other side, you might think this was our living room.

The indirect lighting under the TV looks amazing. I’ll suggest this to my wife tonight. It also fits with the recommendation (lighting for TV) from YPG.

From the size, layout, and access points, this looks like an ideal open-plan living area. (Of course, also the decor and furniture, although I find the decoration under the TV a bit too much.)
Could you please send me the floor plan? You know I do design work, so having a realistic comparison is always helpful.
