Our house is almost finished. We haven’t really thought about the lighting yet. The positions of the lights are fixed, as well as the types of switches (dimmable or not).
But are there companies that might come out and take a look at the rooms to make recommendations on which lights would be suitable? It’s not about the appearance of the lights but about their function. For example, ensuring certain corners are well lit or that the light above the dining table still looks good when the table is extended. The goal is to create a cozy atmosphere, not an operating room type of lighting.
How did you handle this?

If I were RICH!, I would also give the Occhio team a key and say, "go ahead." But only after the house and the lighting outlets are finished.

Well, there is a family connection between me and the electrical planner :-D

How did you go about it? We took photos of the rooms and lighting outlets, then visited lighting stores to browse, get inspiration, and receive advice.
We found our lamps that way.
The internet doesn’t compare to seeing them in person.
Three of the lamps are from Slamp.

So far, for our lighting plan, we have simply talked a lot with everyone involved, listened to what the architect thinks, how many fixture points the builder and especially the electrician recommend, and got inspired by Instagram, home building tours on YouTube, or bathroom catalogs. I looked at a huge number of pictures on Instagram or Pinterest for each room and then thought about what that would mean for the lighting if I wanted it to look similar. For example, we decided to plan three fixture points side by side above the kitchen island/bar stools, two side fixtures next to the bathroom mirror, lighting in the fireplace shelf, spotlights in the guest bathroom near the toilet and shower, a fixture above the coffee table, two light switches above the nightstands like you often find in hotels, and so on. Honestly, we never would have spent money on a lighting designer, no matter how much money was left, because I prefer to decide myself and taste is often very personal. You tend to get frustrated when you have to argue against the planner’s preferences.
Whether it will turn out as planned, I can’t say yet since we are still in the shell construction phase, but meanwhile I’ve already seen a lot more that would have been great too (more indirect lighting, illuminated furniture or stairs, for example). But at some point, you have to draw a line, and additional lighting unfortunately costs quite a lot.
A friend of mine was really enthusiastic about Occhio lamps and would have received consultation and planning along with the purchase of the appropriate fixtures and luminaires, but if I understand correctly, for your project it is already too late for positioning the fixture points, right?
What I would also recommend: think about what you liked about the lighting in your parents’ house or in friends’ homes. That’s how we realized that our dining table lamp had to be dimmable because we always loved at my parents’ how you could dim the light a bit after dinner for wine and conversation.
Good luck and, above all, have fun with your planning – especially with lighting, there are really great lamps and options!
