Hello everyone,
My windows and front door have now been measured (city villa), and the installer asked whether we are sure we want a sidelight next to the front door. He personally would widen the door slightly and omit the sidelight.
Here is the door as currently planned:

What do you think? Is the sidelight too small and would it look odd? Would a wider door be more comfortable and "nicer" here?
Best regards,

So, you mean that the 21cm (8 inches) glass section won’t look odd? The door would currently be a standard size of 95cm (37 inches).
Here is the exterior view again (building first without the canopy):

We have decided to place the light on the left instead of the right, here is the ground floor plan:

It can’t really be judged without that context.
However, a lot of light (brightness) always creates a welcoming atmosphere, so I would recommend including the light strip—even 15 cm (6 inches) makes a difference.
I forgot to mention that a light strip will be installed in the door if the side light strip is omitted.
As you already said, the installer pointed out that the small light strip might look quite poor. The goal is to let light in without it looking odd, of course. @driver55 do you think the 15cm (6 inches) will make a difference and still look relatively "good" visually?
Best regards

Unfortunately, the floor plan is not fully visible, so we can only guess. For the first 2–3 meters (6.5–10 feet) of the hallway, it doesn’t seem like there is any other source of light. Then you have an entrance canopy. The hallway is going to be quite dark.
I think the 15 cm (6 inches) light strip might not be enough. I don’t believe it would look odd visually, but of course, that also depends on the execution.
Personally, in this case, I would also consider widening the door (a wider door also gives a more spacious impression) and, if possible, opt for a wider light strip than 15 cm (6 inches) in the door. A 15 cm (6 inches) strip doesn’t let in much light.
