How cold is it over there where you are?10 to 16 degrees Celsius (50 to 61 degrees Fahrenheit). For me, it’s a mix of desired warm indoor temperatures, rather little sunshine two days ago, lots of wind, and a plot that didn’t allow for a true south-facing orientation of the house. The KfW 55 energy standard was only just met. So, I start heating a bit earlier than others. When you compare the heating costs to other expenses, they are quite manageable. The heating technician actually wants 400 euros per year for a maintenance contract (heat pump, hot water tank, controlled ventilation system). It seems unnecessary and like a pure rip-off, but I might have no choice because of the warranty...

10 to 16 degrees The same weather as here. Max. 1-2 hours of sun per day, otherwise just rain for days.
So far, the little sun together with cooking, showering, etc. is enough to keep the temperature at 21-23 degrees Celsius (70-73 degrees Fahrenheit). But we’re all home all day right now as well.
Luckily, there’s sun again starting Wednesday. In August, I wouldn’t have heated on principle 😉
