Sometimes I imagine that not all shade is the same. I prefer the shade of trees over the shade of a sun umbrella, and I also find the shade from wooden shutters more pleasant than the shade cast by roller shutters. I lack experience to compare with external venetian blinds, which I am more familiar with in office settings.

The black-and-white faction prefers Venetian blinds; one click and everything comes down, which is also practical.
However, you always have to be careful with wind, and here on the hill where we live, that wouldn’t have made much sense. Based on my experience with rail-guided Venetian blinds without wind sensors in a residential area where even the sturdiest garden umbrella gets damaged because of the strong wind, I can only say that we don’t need a wind sensor. If you use common sense and don’t leave the blinds down during a forecasted storm—or worse, leave them open—there’s no real wind risk. A neighbor once forgot to raise their Venetian blinds during a storm warning; the only consequence was that the slats had to be manually adjusted afterward. Nothing more. Otherwise, wind or thunderstorms don’t harm the Venetian blinds at all.

The pictures I found are really great. The others as well – unfortunately, this forum is not exactly known for having the best search function, and some users have posted so many impressive pictures here that I can’t remember all the post numbers from the house pictures thread ;-)https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

but inside you don’t have to sit in complete darkness like with roller shutters.
… Who says roller shutters have to be fully closed? 🙂
Shutters just need to suit the house.
