A local carpentry workshop made us beautiful larch shutters… however, they were untreated/raw. We primed them ourselves and painted them with our chosen color (RAL 7033 cement gray) using a spray gun. Today we installed them.. tada..

Aluminum shutters are unfortunately very, very expensive. They easily cost around a thousand euros per window, which can add up to 20,000 for an entire house. I think they are the most expensive shading option, but also the nicest 🙂
Yes, you are right about everything. For our house, they would cost around 40,000 euros (about 44,000 USD) or more. So we won’t be able to afford them right away, maybe at a later time. But probably not.

I thought of your fixed shutters when we visited the garden market at Laubach Castle on Saturday. The attachment here is very natural-looking but took some time to achieve. This kind of aesthetic decay on an otherwise well-maintained building is rare to see in Germany. I like it.

Of course, the patina is appealing – sometimes even desired. Many newly built houses today are sterile and monotonous in shades of gray. This is purely a fashion trend. Often, something old with signs of wear has more charm than something new. Even when it’s old shutters beside new windows. I deliberately kept some old barn doors. For a 150-year-old barn, a new Hörmann sectional door really looks out of place. It may be practical, but visually unacceptable.

Hello Steffi33, the shutters are really amazing, and the color combination of the facade paint is very well done. We are facing a similar decision and wanted to ask which shades you chose for the facade, the base, and the window frames? Many thanks and greetings from the Spessart.

Hello Alex, we developed our colors using the Brillux color designer. However, we later changed the shutters to RAL 7033.

Great, thank you very much! I always find online color matching systems quite challenging. Judging by the photos, the facade color on your house appears to be a shade lighter—and, in my opinion, even more attractive than on the sample image.
