Today, the gas bill for 2020/21 arrived, following the electricity bill. Electricity usage was 1900 kWh, gas 9300 kWh, both per year. I’m not sure if this is excellent, but I’m quite satisfied. Gas costs about 500 per year, electricity around 600, so energy costs are roughly 100 per month. We only produce hot water using solar panels. This energy is consumed on-site, and nothing is sold.
There are two of us living in an energy-saving regulation bungalow made of solid Ytong blocks with approximately 110 m² (1184 sq ft) of living space.

Here, the electricity cost including the heat pump for heating plus hot water is 1100 € per year. So, purely from a financial perspective, choosing a heat pump and photovoltaic system instead of gas was the wrong decision; the photovoltaic system with battery was about 18,000 €. It is a very nice but rather expensive gadget.

Wait and see—once the oil is depleted, gas will be next. I expect costs to double over the next 10 years. And do you really think electricity will get cheaper? A heat pump almost always consumes more compared to gas or pellets. When it comes to investment, only compared to gas; pellets are the most expensive option. No one knows the future, but one thing is certain: everything will become significantly more expensive.
Currently, we have household electricity costs of 1200 euros and 1000 euros for the heat pump, which adds up to energy expenses of nearly 200 euros per month. The trend is rising, as we also want a freezer, additional electric vehicles (I really want a fun car with serious power…), and a hot tub. 😀
On the other hand, we have reduced our costs for oil, gas, and petrol/diesel to zero. We were also able to eliminate one car completely. 🙂
