Hello,

Does anyone have a tip for affordable pleated blinds (plissé) wider than 1.50m (5 feet), which is usually the maximum? I need 1.65m (5.4 feet) for a fixed glazing section (window strip) and, if possible, a mounting method that doesn’t require drilling. Or would you drill into the frame for installation?

Thanks!

What do you mean by "jalousie"? Surely not those rattling slats with a rod to turn them?

Venetian blinds look ridiculous, even though they are currently considered modern. Maybe those who tried to save money on blinds didn't want any at all and preferred pleated blinds instead.

External blinds
Well, several points come to mind. First of all, external blinds were more expensive than a 25€ (about $27) surcharge. With 20 to 30 windows, that adds up to a substantial amount. Furthermore, I have the problem that I can't exit through any patio door when the blinds are down. There are probably solutions for this, but unfortunately not within my budget. The pleated blinds don’t cause this issue.
Also, personally, I think it looks like a bunker when these blinds are down everywhere on the house. They always remind me of metal gates at jewelry stores or small shops.
The only real advantage I would have personally is the sun protection. Unfortunately, pleated blinds only provide limited help with that.
Then there’s maintenance or replacement. A huge effort for an entire house. With pleated blinds, I just browse online for a few minutes and order a new color. Then spend half a Saturday installing them, and it’s done...
All in all, I find pleated blinds a good compromise in all aspects.

Besides appearance, it’s also about the shading effect without turning the room into a dark box.
Of course, tastes vary, but 95% of pleated shade owners simply lacked the money or knowledge for Venetian blinds. Usually, it’s the money.

If you install pleated blinds of reasonably good quality, they serve the purpose of keeping heat out while allowing diffused sunlight in (at least with white pleated blinds). This creates a very pleasant room atmosphere. It may be true that these venetian blinds are too expensive for some. However, quality always comes at a price, whether with this product or another. And as I said, I wouldn't expect too much from, for example, Lidl.

Well... everyone sees that differently. I would rather say that when it comes to sun protection, there is a significant advantage if the protection is installed on the outside; that is a technical and physical benefit. Visually, it doesn’t really matter because everyone likes something different.

Sorry – but that is not correct, and not because I say so. This can be measured and has been extensively studied scientifically. The heat is already behind the glass, meaning inside the living space.

Why not? It depends on the properties of the fabric used, not the retailer. Currently, we have several pleated blinds inside from an online supplier, and we are satisfied with the quality. However, we don’t have very large window areas on the sunny side. In the bathroom, we have aluminum Venetian blinds operated by a rotary knob, which I really like. For our new house, we chose external venetian blinds (Raffstore) because we have large window areas there. I am now familiar with all systems from various living situations, and I like external venetian blinds for several reasons. Nevertheless, there is always a necessary cost-benefit consideration.

😀D That is probably not just a problem with external venetian blinds. Whether it’s a pleated blind, roller shutter, or blinds lowered at the bottom, or a closed door, generally it’s difficult to go in and out; at best, only once before you have to call a technician.

That’s what matters, and then it works for you. There isn’t one universal solution.
