Hello everyone,

I have a sample selection meeting with the builder coming up soon. We currently have the standard front door from Kebotherm, model 5777.

I’m not sure if it is possible with this builder to choose an electronic door, for example with a fingerprint scanner. If it is possible, it comes with a significant additional cost.

Questions:
- If I go with this standard door, how easy or difficult is it to convert it to an electronic door later?
- I am considering running LAN/power cables to the door area. What do you think about this?
- If I receive a credit of around €2000 (about $2200) for the front door, would it be worth taking the credit and selecting the door and contractor myself? I understand that this can be expensive.

Thank you very much for your help.

Replacing the front door afterwards involves a lot of effort. After all, the screed is laid up to that point, the door is plastered in, and then the surrounding area is painted.

First, you need to know exactly what you want. What do you mean by electronic?
- An electric strike?
- An automatic lock?
- A motorized lock?

Which fingerprint system?
Ekey or a standalone solution from the door manufacturer?

Run a 5-core cable and a CAT duplex cable to the front door, plus a CAT duplex cable to the intercom system.

Then you will have all options available...

Thank you for your answer and for the terms.
I did some googling. I think that initially I only need the locking cylinder with fingerprint. In the future, I am considering a motorized lock.
Question:
- 5-core cable + CAT duplex cable + CAT duplex cable for the intercom: isn’t that too much? I was thinking of CAT duplex cable for the door plus CAT duplex cable for the intercom. What is the 5-core cable for?
- How far should I run the duplex cable? Top, bottom, left or right, corner?
Wishing you a nice Sunday.

A cylinder lock with a fingerprint sensor doesn’t make much sense. What’s supposed to happen when you place your finger on it? Should the door magically open?
At minimum, you need an electric strike or a door buzzer ("summer").
Retrofitting a motorized lock isn’t really feasible or involves a huge effort.
You might need a 5-core cable for the power supply to the motorized lock and CAT cable for the fingerprint sensor. This way, the fingerprint reader can be installed either in the intercom system or directly in the door.
Retrofitting in this area is very difficult, so I would recommend either doing it properly from the start or simply not doing it at all.

I can only recommend it; it’s so convenient to go out without keys. For a man, having free pockets is priceless.

I have no experience with this yet. Thanks to Google, I found a few products like VisorTech door lock or Burg. After placing my finger, I can turn the cylinder to unlock the door.
With an electric strike or buzzer, I’m concerned it might not be secure enough.

I don’t think my hardware supplier / builder uses electronic doors like these.
