Hello everyone,

I have a sample selection meeting with the builder coming up soon. We currently have the standard front door from Kebotherm, model 5777.

I’m not sure if it is possible with this builder to choose an electronic door, for example with a fingerprint scanner. If it is possible, it comes with a significant additional cost.

Questions:
- If I go with this standard door, how easy or difficult is it to convert it to an electronic door later?
- I am considering running LAN/power cables to the door area. What do you think about this?
- If I receive a credit of around €2000 (about $2200) for the front door, would it be worth taking the credit and selecting the door and contractor myself? I understand that this can be expensive.

Thank you very much for your help.

Fuhr lock 750 €
Door handle with Ekey 1200 €
Ekey Multi control unit 480 €
Ekey power supply 70 €

The complete wiring and some space inside the cabinet are still missing.
The handle is a design choice. This way it is as unobtrusive as possible and ergonomically very practical.

Sounds not too bad, Christian.

When it comes to KNX, consider carefully if you really want to go that route. Opinions vary. I integrated binary inputs into the relay outputs of the controller myself. This way, I get the information on the bus when a fingerprint has been successfully scanned and the door is unlocked. But that’s about it. You can’t open the door via the bus – intentionally. Cost was 20€ (about $22) for the binary input, instead of 400€ (about $440) for the KNX gateway (which, of course, can do much more).

sla, why pay 480€ (about $530) for multi? Do you have more than two doors or gates? The ekey Home SE mini with 2 relays costs 120€ (about $130). Definitely worth considering for a single-family house, in my opinion.

I currently have only 2 doors connected but wanted to keep it open for lighting and other features.

By the way, I think the Ekey technician also had a concern about this. The combination with the FSB is a bit special, as it has to be the last device in the chain, for example.

Yes, I still need to check whether I will connect the door to KNX. I included it here just to approximately match the price from sla83.

We are still considering whether to integrate ekey into the door handle or the doorbell. The door handle is more practical, but I need to see if I can possibly connect KNX there, and it might be harder to replace in the future.

I am fully flexible with the doorbell, but we are still deciding between the 2N IP Verso and the Gira System 106. The Gira System 106 looks more attractive, but I am not sure if it supports SIP, because we will not have an indoor unit but will rather use a smartphone, tablet, PC, and possibly a Fritz.phone. But that’s off-topic.

I haven’t connected the door to the KNX system and don’t really miss it. However, there is also a KNX cable in the garage, and later on we integrated the awning with KNX RF because my wife wanted the valance and lighting to be controlled. Although it is possible to keep them separate, having them connected could potentially be a security risk.

The doorbell is a Mobotix. The garage door is also connected to it, in case the parcel box isn’t sufficient. If necessary, I would rather connect the door to it instead.
