Good morning everyone,

I have another question. In our new build, the LAN cables are being installed in protective conduits. However, there is some disagreement about the required diameter according to the relevant standards. I have read about 25mm (1 inch) conduits.
According to the electrician, a 20mm (¾ inch) conduit should be used for simplex cables up to the outlet. No pull cord or similar is planned.
This naturally raises the question for me of how a future replacement would be possible... if it is even necessary.

What size conduits would you use? Where might it make sense to install an empty conduit for future use?
Thanks everyone

We install duplex cables in 25mm (1 inch). Simplex cables will definitely fit into 20mm (¾ inch).
Whether you'll actually be able to replace the cables there later on is very questionable if any damage occurs. It's primarily intended to protect the cables...

Conduits are often recommended as a replacement, but in practice, it is usually quite difficult or even impossible to pull new cables through them.

The space in a typical single-family house is usually insufficient to install them in a way that allows easy re-pulling later.

Good morning,

I had M30 conduit installed for my duplex cables. M20 should be enough for simplex cables...
I think the route and bend radii are much more important; otherwise, it becomes really difficult to pull the cables through later. Who will be pulling the cables through the conduit, you or your electrician? If it’s the latter, the pulling cords won’t matter much since they’ll have to guide the cables through themselves. If you ever need to replace a cable later, the end of the existing cable acts as your “pulling cord” for the new one. ☺ Where only conduits are installed, I’d have a pulling cord installed as well.

Regarding your second question: I had an M50 conduit run from the utility room up to the roof for a potential satellite system, in case you don’t already have one.

Regards.

The electrician will also handle the installation. I have only heard that DIN 18015 requires a 25mm (1 inch) conduit. However, I couldn’t find this specified online. Therefore, I wanted to ask again.
I have had an empty conduit planned from the basement to the roof for a potential photovoltaic system.

We are also planning to use DN25 empty conduits everywhere. As Alexee already mentioned, you should especially make sure that the conduits are not installed with too tight bends. This is one of the most important factors for a later replacement (and, of course, making sure that no one steps on the pipes or otherwise squeezes them).

In general, I would recommend installing an empty conduit wherever you might want to pull additional cables later: coaxial cables in extra rooms, network cables, photovoltaic system.
