Hello everyone,
I am planning to purchase a battery-powered hedge trimmer. That on its own is not too difficult, but with it, you also effectively buy into a battery system. There are certainly several good hedge trimmers from well-known manufacturers.
I know that additional purchases will follow soon: a battery-powered lawn mower for about 300sqm (3,200 sq ft) of lawn and a battery-powered screwdriver for hobby use—the old one with 9.6 volts is a bit weak.
This is already foreseeable, and there might be more tools I am not aware of yet.
I have seen that Makita, Bosch, and Ryobi offer devices that meet my requirements and allow me to use the same batteries across tools.
My questions:
- Are there other major manufacturers with systems that I should consider?
- Which manufacturer offers good products for my needs with a good price-performance ratio?
- What experiences can you share? For example, does any manufacturer have particularly good lawn mowers? (I believe most can do the hobby screwdriver well enough.)
Best regards,
Rainer Aldinger

Grantlhaua26 Mar 2019 07:42In terms of quality, Bosch Professional and Stihl would be the best choice, but with Makita you have everything you need in one battery system... If I didn’t already own all Bosch tools, I would definitely consider switching to Makita because of the advantages of their batteries.

squasher197126 Mar 2019 08:33Thank you. Yes, you are probably right about Bosch Blue. I also have their rotary hammer... With my house having many concrete walls, that was very important.
But the cordless screwdriver will only be used about 5 times a year for me, so Makita’s quality and battery system will be the deciding factor.
Best regards, Rainer

Deliverer26 Mar 2019 09:44I have almost everything from the Bosch Green 18-Volt range. I find the value for money to be very good. All the tools perform their tasks reliably – some of them have been in my possession since around 2012. However, I am not sure if they offer a lawn mower. And yes, they don’t have the feel of Makita tools, but they also don’t come with that price.
The price is partly so good because the batteries are often included for free in various promotions. So out of about 10 batteries, I probably only paid for 3.

Unfortunately, Bosch doesn’t offer anything in the 18V or 12V Professional range for garden tools. Their garden equipment is either all from the Green line or now in the new 36V segment.and unaffordable. That’s why for garden tools -> Stihl, for power tools Bosch.

Best regards, RainerFor that, Makita is definitely sufficient.

Regards, Rainer Makita is on the same level as Bosch Blue. Check out mydealz, where you can set a keyword alert for Makita; there are always occasional deals on tools sold as SOLO (meaning without case, battery, and charger – but eventually, you have enough chargers and batteries…).
