ᐅ Best Battery System for Required Tools

Hello everyone,

I am planning to purchase a battery-powered hedge trimmer. That on its own is not too difficult, but with it, you also effectively buy into a battery system. There are certainly several good hedge trimmers from well-known manufacturers.

I know that additional purchases will follow soon: a battery-powered lawn mower for about 300sqm (3,200 sq ft) of lawn and a battery-powered screwdriver for hobby use—the old one with 9.6 volts is a bit weak.

This is already foreseeable, and there might be more tools I am not aware of yet.

I have seen that Makita, Bosch, and Ryobi offer devices that meet my requirements and allow me to use the same batteries across tools.

My questions:
- Are there other major manufacturers with systems that I should consider?
- Which manufacturer offers good products for my needs with a good price-performance ratio?
- What experiences can you share? For example, does any manufacturer have particularly good lawn mowers? (I believe most can do the hobby screwdriver well enough.)

Best regards,
Rainer Aldinger

Thanks. Yes, you’re probably right about Bosch blue. I also have the rotary hammer from them... with my house having many concrete walls, that was very important.
But the cordless screwdriver will be used about 5 times a year for me, so Makita quality and the battery system will do.

Makita is on the same level as Bosch blue. Check out mydealz, you can set up a keyword alert for Makita, there are always deals on tools at bargain prices as SOLO (meaning without case, battery, and charger – but at some point, you have enough chargers and batteries...)

Well, a Bosch definitely feels different in the hand compared to a Makita.

I have a Bosch Blue and a Makita cordless drill. I have to say: no. And we don’t even need to start on the cheap Bosch Green. With my cordless hammer drill from the Green line, after 5 years the selector switch for hammer/non-hammer mode got stuck...

Do you have the latest Makita generation with the slide-in battery?

My father has a Makita, and I have Bosch blue 10.8 and 18V. There is definitely a noticeable quality difference. Of course, we don’t even need to compare to Bosch green.

However, you can’t go wrong with either Makita or Bosch. If I hadn’t already standardized everything on Bosch, I would also consider buying the Makita spotlight and hedge trimmer.

Hello. That’s interesting. I want to start with the Makita hedge trimmer. Which Makita model do you recommend up front?!? I’m thinking about the smaller one, and I’ll cut the thicker branches manually... but I don’t want to regret saving 50 euros.

I wouldn’t hesitate over the $50 and would go for the DUH551Z. However, due to the lack of Makita infrastructure, I will probably opt for the Stihl HSA56 instead.
