Hello everyone,
I am currently looking for a suitable lawn mower for our new garden.
I have already decided fairly quickly that I want to buy a battery-powered lawn mower.
Now I would like to hear about your experiences, both good and bad!
I have a preference for Bosch, but their standard battery mowers don’t have a drive wheel; for that, you would need to go for the Professional line, which is quite expensive. What I find even less appealing is that such a mower weighs almost 50 kg (110 lbs)! The simpler model weighs less than 15 kg (33 lbs)…!
Our garden isn’t particularly steep, but last year, when I mowed with a petrol mower, it was still comfortable to have a self-propelled drive! By the way, the lawn area is about 700 m² (7,535 sq ft).
Thanks in advance!
Best regards

And refueling takes 30 seconds.I just wanted to say that I believe it doesn’t take me any longer to grab a fresh battery and put the empty one on the charger than it does to refuel a petrol mower. Admittedly, the fuel tank will last longer than one battery. My only "concern" is that the second battery might run out before the first one is fully recharged. (Bosch states the battery is 80% charged again after 56 minutes.)
Today, at the store, I held the Rotak 43 Li in my hand. It’s really very lightweight (though without the battery!).

But in the end, you have to decide. Please share your experiences once you’ve gathered them.I definitely will! Honestly, I probably had already made up my mind before starting this thread, but I wanted to hear a few opinions and experiences.

The problem with the noise [of petrol mowers] is that working people only have a few hours a week available for mowing. So, in summer, you rush through the garden every Saturday morning (if you work full-time and your workplace isn’t just across the street). For me, quiet hours are definitely an important limiting factor for many tasks. Of course, this is just a subjective observation and not the case for everyone...!

So, purchased!
However, it’s a Stihl (Viking) RMA 448 Town & Country set including a mulching kit, 2 batteries, and a charger.
Yesterday was the Stihl test day, and the mower completely convinced us!
Of course, it’s not cheap, but for a battery-powered lawn mower with drive, especially compared to the Bosch Professional series, it’s a very good deal!

After exactly six weeks of ownership and mowing the lawn four times by now, I am pleased to say: I made the right choice! (Of course, the price is debatable—it has to be worth it for you!)
During the first mowing, the two batteries were just enough, and the larger battery was already about 80% charged again at that point. The grass was quite long back then, but now the second battery is no longer fully needed.
Today I mulched for the first time (the optional mulching kit includes a different blade and a wedge insert that keeps the grass in the mower longer, chopping it more finely).
What can I say: I am very satisfied! You can’t see any difference from a regular cut with a grass catcher!
Last year, when I still mowed with the Viking petrol mower without a mulching kit, it looked completely different.
In the medium term, I plan to buy a brush cutter and a scarifier with the corresponding battery versions. Like many brands now, Stihl offers a wide range of tools that run on the same batteries.
Supposedly, only after 1500 charging cycles will a decrease in capacity be noticeable. :O
I’m curious...

700 square meters (about 7,500 square feet) is quite a large area. But with a Stiga AM mulching mower, a cutting width of 48 cm (19 inches) or more, a Briggs and Stratton 5 HP engine, and self-propulsion, it can be mowed in half an hour. Well, such a mower isn’t from a hardware store, but rather from an agricultural supplier, professional division, but for just under 1000, you get a mower for life. Our Stiga, it’s still a two-stroke with a 1:50 fuel mix, has been running since 1991 and keeps going. Karsten
