Hello everyone,
I am currently looking for a suitable lawn mower for our new garden.
I have already decided fairly quickly that I want to buy a battery-powered lawn mower.
Now I would like to hear about your experiences, both good and bad!
I have a preference for Bosch, but their standard battery mowers don’t have a drive wheel; for that, you would need to go for the Professional line, which is quite expensive. What I find even less appealing is that such a mower weighs almost 50 kg (110 lbs)! The simpler model weighs less than 15 kg (33 lbs)…!
Our garden isn’t particularly steep, but last year, when I mowed with a petrol mower, it was still comfortable to have a self-propelled drive! By the way, the lawn area is about 700 m² (7,535 sq ft).

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

Yes, but the cordless mower is much lighter than a petrol one... We have the Bosch cordless mower with a 37cm (15 inches) cutting width, and it’s really easy to handle. Our property has some gentle slopes, but neither my wife nor I missed having a drive motor because the weight makes it easy to push uphill. Overall, after one season, we are very satisfied with the Bosch.

Our total lawn area is about half that size, so even with tall and sometimes wet grass, a 4.0 Ah battery is enough for us. With 700 m² (7,535 ft²), using just one battery might be challenging for you, or you will need to recharge. Most models nowadays come with two 2.0 Ah batteries, so you can recharge one while using the other.

I’m a bit surprised by the battery life claims. I also have the standard Bosch model, and it states a battery range of “up to 150m²” (1,615 sq ft). Our lawn is about 100m² (1,076 sq ft), but quite irregularly shaped, and with one battery I can just about manage. If the grass isn’t very tall, there’s some margin, but with tall grass, the battery has run out on me several times even at this area.

That’s why I would say that 700m² (7,535 sq ft) sounds unrealistic, and I can’t relate to the previous poster’s figures.

@Fuchur: How many ampere-hours (Ah) does your battery have? Also: there isn’t a single standard Bosch model, as the three different versions each have varying ranges depending on the cutting width.

4.0Ah. By "normal," I meant without motorized assistance. Rotak 43Li

Edit: I just noticed that the official range stated is probably higher than what I mentioned. In practice, my battery is almost empty, but I have a second one as a backup and have occasionally used it for tall grass.

I bought an Einhell cordless lawn mower for a small area. It was the cheapest one I could find, as long as it was battery-powered. I think it cost around €150. The battery lasts about 35-40 minutes. You can also buy spare batteries. How much area you can mow with it? I can mow the lawn 2-3 times, but the area is not large, although it has many corners. I can’t say the size in square meters.

Based on this experience, I would lean towards "downsizing," meaning not investing too much money. It’s better to buy a second battery if the first one isn’t enough.
