Hello everyone,

can someone tell me what an oak countertop should cost?
We have about 6 meters (20 feet) to 7 meters (23 feet) of countertop, and this comes to around EUR 3,500, which I consider to be quite expensive.

I only know the prices for a washbasin cabinet, oak, 1.70 meters (5 ft 7 in) long and 50 centimeters (20 inches) deep, about 300,-

What exactly does that mean? Just the countertop? We paid 1100 euros for our oak washbasin cabinet with 4 drawers.

At a Swedish furniture store, you can get 40mm (1.6 inches) / 63.5cm (25 inches) oak boards cut to size, and I believe even with cutouts. I’m not entirely sure, but the price was under 200€/m (around $61/ft).

Do you think it is possible to tell the kitchen showroom that you want to buy the entire kitchen except for the countertop, and then purchase the countertop separately?

It depends on the studio. Ours would do that, for example (stone slab), but would want to be paid accordingly for installation (if done through the studio).

Just ask, maybe the price will even change suddenly...

Sure, that works. You can also buy the kitchen without the appliances. You just have to install it yourself or pay to have it installed.
The alternative for the kitchen showroom is that they lose one customer ;-)

It is possible! However, not every showroom offers this, partly because it always carries the risk that, in this case, for example, the countertop might not fit perfectly, and then the kitchen showroom ends up dealing with the issues. But it’s definitely worth asking. At the same time, you should consider how much you will actually save in the end. Still, €3,500 is quite a steep price, in my opinion.
