Hello everyone,

Attached is a drawing of our guest bathroom. The wall-mounted installation has unfortunately become almost 21 cm (8 inches) deep due to a ventilation pipe behind it. Because of this, we are now unsure whether the door should open inward or outward.

We will only install a hand washbasin with a depth of 36 cm (14 inches). With this, the door would just be able to open inward without hitting it.

If the door opens outward, it just fits past the front door...

So, which is the lesser problem, or what would be more practical?

Aesthetically, I would actually prefer the door to open inward...

Thank you in advance for all your opinions and tips....

I am in favor of inward-opening.

If it’s going outside, please have it open the other way. Having the walkway around the door is inconvenient.

tomtom79 is right.
And please keep in mind that in such small rooms, if someone has health issues and is lying on the floor, they need to be easily accessible for paramedics or others. That is why, among other safety reasons, the door in small rooms should open outwards.
Just imagine how often it can happen that someone enters or leaves the house while the door of the guest toilet is opened at the same time.
Personally, I prefer the door to open outwards.

I agree with that: facing outward and without walking around the door, so rotated 180°.

Or as drawn, but 63.5cm (25 inches) wide instead of 76cm (30 inches).

Sliding door? We had one in an old apartment and thought it was great. Now we’re considering replacing the standard door with a sliding door in our current place as well, because we constantly have to walk around the door in the hallway. It’s just really annoying. :-/
