ᐅ Door opening inward or outward? What is the standard?

Hello everyone,

Attached is a drawing of our guest bathroom. The wall-mounted installation has unfortunately become almost 21 cm (8 inches) deep due to a ventilation pipe behind it. Because of this, we are now unsure whether the door should open inward or outward.

We will only install a hand washbasin with a depth of 36 cm (14 inches). With this, the door would just be able to open inward without hitting it.

If the door opens outward, it just fits past the front door...

So, which is the lesser problem, or what would be more practical?

Aesthetically, I would actually prefer the door to open inward...

Thank you in advance for all your opinions and tips....

The idea of emergency access is important to me as well.

Honestly, I don’t understand why the building authority would approve a door in such a room that opens inward. They pay attention to so many unnecessary details, yet they do not value these simple and potentially life-saving measures.

I would also do it on the outside! There is nothing worse than having to squeeze around the doors inside such tiny bathrooms located in the interior of the building...

Inside. As shown on the plan. To the wall. Ergonomically standard.

I also think sliding doors are a good choice. For toilets and bathrooms, it’s important to ensure they can be locked (with an emergency coin release from the outside) since doors are usually offered without locks. If possible, they should also be soundproof, which is typically not the case with sliding doors.

Definitely inward. Why not? It fully opens anyway!? I have seen much "worse" before.

inward toward the wall. Even if someone is lying there, you can still somehow get in.
