G-Star198811 Nov 2017 20:11Hello everyone,
In our future house, the water hardness is between 23 and 25 dH. I have spoken with some people from the new development area, and many are having a water softening system installed directly. I have done some research online, but honestly, I am a bit unsure. Many people strongly recommend salt-based systems, but what about something like a Watercat Cube? Does a system like that work with my water hardness?

HilfeHilfe12 Nov 2017 08:12Hello, use a conventional water softening system from BTW or Grünbeck. We have Grünbeck, the costs are manageable… Purchase price about 2500€ , salt per year about 24€ , maintenance by the plumber 120€ . What about the magnets? Does the technician come during maintenance for that??
Hello,
Only if you have danced your name over the phone beforehand!
By the way, the neighbor of my parents (a trained chemist!) once, decades ago, as a joke and to prove that it was nonsense, attached such "anti-scale magnets" to the pipes—and later noticed that he had fewer limescale stains in the bathroom. This puzzled him for years and even made him question his studies...
Regarding salt-based water softeners: what water hardness does the water have coming out of such a softening system? Here, we only have about 15°dH (27 °fH). But the limescale stains and the frequent descaling of kettles and similar appliances are really annoying. And I would like to avoid the trouble with clogged pipes that my mother is dealing with today after 40 years in her house.
Best regards,
Andreas
