ᐅ Three years since completion – still haven’t found a ceiling light for the kitchen!

We’re probably a bit crazy. We can’t find a ceiling light that both of us like for the kitchen. But all the options out there are just terrible. We definitely don’t want those damn LEDs. So that rules out 50% of the lights right away.
Then we need a lot of light, at least 3000 lumens. We both have poor eyesight. That cuts out another 30% because these days lights don’t seem to be meant for actual illumination anymore.

That leaves only 20% that we simply don’t like or that are too expensive (over 500€). It’s so frustrating. Does anyone know a lighting store that doesn’t just sell the usual generic stuff but offers something different?

Feel free to share pictures of the lights you have, if you want. Maybe we’ll like some of those too. 🙁

Timelessly elegant. 😀

I don’t understand why LEDs are categorically rejected. In my opinion, the lights available nowadays are quite pleasant and generally very suitable.

In my kitchen, besides the three task lights (under the wall cabinets – of course LED), there are two of these “hanging spotlights.” With that, I manage to illuminate the roughly 20 sqm (215 sq ft) well and basically never have shadows in the work area. Together they deliver nearly 4000 lumens. What I find interesting is that, despite a long search, I only found these models from this manufacturer that combine strip, spot, and pendant lighting.

Since the bulbs are replaceable, you can of course also use energy-saving or (if still available) halogen bulbs with GU10 sockets. At least back then, they were offered directly from the factory with compact fluorescent or halogen bulbs.

Good luck

Good luck K1300S

What kind of lamp/model do you have?

I’m curious about that too. Any pictures?

It’s difficult to give advice here without any reference to personal taste or how the furnishings look. Everything should harmonize overall.

This still applies... ceiling lights are generally not meant to be the task lighting over work surfaces. When are they actually needed? Deep cleaning in the kitchen is usually done during daylight hours.

I personally have two large recessed fluorescent tube spotlights in a suspended ceiling (diameter about 18 cm (7 inches)). I rarely need to turn them on.

I installed a spotlight fixture in my kitchen that can be rotated in all directions. This ensures that the work surfaces are well illuminated.

In our kitchen, we have a flat, unobtrusive, very bright light fixture. Its main purpose is to provide very bright lighting when needed. Otherwise, we almost exclusively use the task lighting above the work surfaces.

Over the weekend, I put together a selection of kitchen lights online. Now I want to make my husband choose one of them. I honestly don’t care anymore which one. We already have under-cabinet lights and will add more of those. But I can’t stand that ceiling bulb, like the kind painters use, anymore. 🙁
