Hello everyone, we have received our first quote and I wanted to ask what you have paid or if this seems reasonable.

It concerns 160 sqm (square meters) of paving with base layers (parking space, 2 terraces: paving stones priced at 18.50€ net), edging stones, etc.
Additionally, splash protection around the house with a mowing edge,
spreading topsoil and delivering an additional 20 cubic meters.

The total cost is supposed to be 13,000 €.

OFF TOPIC: This is a beautiful house. Wow.

Thank you very much.

In the meantime, the decorative gravel has also been installed, the first wall is finished, the area above the terrace has been filled in, and the lawn has been seeded.

Large terrace with light gray tiles in front of the house, grill on the left, stone wall in the background.

Construction site with dark stone block wall, paved foreground and trees behind.

Paved terrace with gray stone steps and gravel base, stone wall, houses in the background.

Construction site in the garden of a modern house; earthworks, building area and playground equipment in the background.

The decorative gravel will darken a bit more.
The seating benches will be covered with Cumaru decking boards, and the wall will be extended forward alongside the house.

So, there’s still work to do. But it’s really nice to see a project grow step by step.

I’m going to take some pictures shortly, so you can see it for yourself.
After a long discussion with our landscape contractor about materials, we decided on paving.
The driveway, courtyard, walkway around the house, and both terraces are paved. It looks harmonious and is low-maintenance.
Additionally, we had the requirement that everything must be permeable to water.

I can only agree with Thorsten. Very nice outdoor area.

@BeHaElJa: The paving work was carried out by the landscape gardener, but the paving stones were purchased by us from a specialist supplier. It was important to us to have a walkway around the house and that, in the worst case, only one step needs to be overcome at the entrance area.

Paving can be lifted again at any time if it should settle. It also does not need to be painted or oiled every year. It is not slippery when wet and provides the water permeability required by the local authority / management, which results in lower surface drainage costs.
Disadvantage: Nature takes its course and occasionally a weed may grow in the joints. However, there are plenty of practical, environmentally friendly, and quick solutions for this minor issue.

One of the main reasons I chose water-permeable stones for my patio is that they can handle drainage well. I’m planning to pave my driveway the same way in 2017.

It doesn’t look as charming as wood, that’s for sure.

But I didn’t want the maintenance work.

I was told this patio will last 40 years...

I don’t regret choosing paving stones.
Durable. Low maintenance. Occasionally, some weeds grow through the joints... easy to remove.

Some green algae after winter: pressure washer with a patio cleaning brush attachment, and it’s gone. Takes about 20 minutes.

(Unfortunately, last week a part of the pressure washer connection flew off and broke... had to order a replacement. But it wasn’t the pressure washer’s fault; I, clumsy as I am, knocked it over while exercising for my hip... the casing got irreparably damaged.)

Best regards,
Thorsten
