Hello everyone, we have received our first quote and I wanted to ask what you have paid or if this seems reasonable.
It concerns 160 sqm (square meters) of paving with base layers (parking space, 2 terraces: paving stones priced at 18.50€ net), edging stones, etc.
Additionally, splash protection around the house with a mowing edge,
spreading topsoil and delivering an additional 20 cubic meters.
The total cost is supposed to be 13,000 €.

I also find it well-balanced. The stone planting beds add a nice touch of variety.
It was important for us to have something low-maintenance. That’s why we ultimately decided against a wooden deck.
The porcelain tiles are very easy to care for. They don’t absorb dirt, and anything on them can be easily wiped off or pressure washed if needed.

I should have trained as a landscaper. My wife would see it differently.
Although she still likes her apprenticeship trade, she no longer wants to work in it.
For a woman, it is quite tough—laying paving, setting curbs, building stairs, or "just" spending the whole day or week mowing meadows with 0.5 to 1 meter (1.5 to 3 feet) tall grass using a Stihl brush cutter on your back. It’s a profession where workers are significantly underpaid (similar to healthcare jobs, though not directly comparable).
Especially challenging for a woman with children: being on different construction sites all day from morning till evening, where work often runs overtime so you don’t have to make the 100 kilometer (62 mile) trip again the next day for two more hours. Especially great if you have fixed daycare closing hours.
Hello,
I have spent about 10,000 euros just on materials for paving stones, slabs, and curbstones.
All installation was done by myself (almost finished). I reported about it here: https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/pflaster-und-platten-von-rinn.14699/
What is still missing is a retaining wall, spreading (and possibly compacting) the topsoil, as well as the lawn.
Your offer is therefore very affordable. The question is whether affordable always means good.
You should ask to see the quality of the stones (so you don’t end up with moss everywhere in 5 years) and examples of the workmanship (references).

On Friday, we visited a reference property where the landscape gardener was working, using stones in black basalt. It wasn’t our color choice. The stone was rough-textured and dyed throughout... I couldn’t see much more. Otherwise, it’s just a stone costing 18 euros net, so I assume it’s acceptable.
We asked if it’s also available in shell limestone.

It always depends on personal background.... and physical condition.
At 1.85 meters (6 ft 1 in) and 65 kg (143 lbs), it’s difficult to carry and set curb stones weighing over 40 kg (88 lbs).
During the season, the weight sometimes tended to drop closer to 60 kg (132 lbs).
Well – paving was not really emphasized during her training, so she rarely did it later on.
However, there were weeks of continuous work with the brush cutter. Back then, after 2.5 weeks, work stopped due to tendon sheath inflammation (only men on the go-kart track keep the throttle constantly pressed ).
