Hello everyone, I am currently planning to carry out my small kitchen project using IKEA Metod cabinets and would like to specifically find out which of the Metod cabinets are especially easy to maintain. I am particularly interested in how the surfaces hold up in everyday use, how easily they can be cleaned from grease, water, or dust, and whether certain materials or finishes offer advantages based on your experience. Do you have any specific cabinet types or fronts within the Metod range that you would recommend for a kitchen that requires minimal effort when cleaning? Perhaps also experiences with fronts made of foil-coated MDF or high-gloss lacquer? Thanks for your tips!

One more note from my experience: No matter which material you choose, ease of maintenance also depends on the color. Light-colored fronts show smudges and dust less than dark ones. The choice of handles can also make cleaning easier. Smooth, flat handles are better than ornate ones because dirt clings less to them. For painted fronts, it’s better to clean gently and frequently rather than wait a long time and then scrub harshly – otherwise, the surface will suffer.

My tip: Consider how much time you want to spend on cleaning and don’t choose based on appearance alone.

How do you use your kitchen? Is it mostly heavy-duty cooking with grease involved, or is it used more lightly?

Thank you for the detailed response. I cook regularly, often involving greasy food, and with two children, the kitchen frequently experiences small spills. This means resistance to grease and a surface that can withstand frequent handling are crucial for me. Specifically, I would like to know if the interior surfaces and handles of the Metod cabinets are also easy to maintain, if anyone has experience with that.

The interior surfaces are usually simply melamine-coated and therefore very easy to maintain, that is correct. When it comes to handles, the material plays a big role. Stainless steel handles are durable and easy to clean, while plastic handles can discolor over time or develop sticky residues. Handles without small indentations are recommended, as dirt tends to accumulate there. It is also advisable to choose handles that can be removed for easier cleaning.

Nice discussion here! For my kitchen, I chose matte, laminated fronts and can confidently say that they are very easy to maintain. Grease can be wiped off immediately without having to scrub for a long time. So my kids don’t stand a chance of leaving lasting marks anymore. ;-)

For the handles, I went with stainless steel models – they look stylish and are really durable. What more could you want?

That matches my experience. Matte laminate on top, easy to clean. Otherwise, it’s more work.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful feedback! In summary, I take away that matte laminated fronts are easy to maintain and durable, melamine is also good, and painted fronts should generally be avoided if you expect a lot of grease or water splashes. Interior surfaces are usually melamine, so they’re unproblematic, and handles are best in stainless steel without complex textures.

If anyone has any special cleaning tips for these surfaces or suggestions for durable handle alternatives, please feel free to share!
