Hello everyone,
I’m interested in knowing which ceiling height you have chosen or are likely to choose.
Are you satisfied with your choice? Looking back, would you choose a different ceiling height? If yes, why?
Best regards
Ddorfer
P.S. For the survey, please select the ceiling height that is closest to yours.

Either way, higher ceilings should correspond with taller windows and interior doors; otherwise, you might as well skip the expense of raising the floor level. Otherwise, it ends up looking somewhat forced and awkward.Absolutely right. I imagine our “standard” doors—it just wouldn’t look balanced.
Upstairs, we have many sloped ceilings.
The bedroom is about 18 m² (194 sq ft) and the bathroom 17 m² (183 sq ft), which really allows the ceiling height to stand out.
In the two smaller rooms (AZ / GZ), there’s a bit more headroom. We only have an 80 cm (31.5 inch) knee wall, and after subtracting the finished floor thickness, about 63 cm (24.8 inches) remain... so the higher ceiling is comfortable there as well.
Best regards,
Thorsten
Hi Bauexperte,
*Completely agree* We also opted for a ceiling height of 2.6 m (8 feet 6 inches) on the ground floor, along with interior doors of 2.1 m (6 feet 11 inches) and matching patio doors. Otherwise, it probably would have looked quite odd...
I’m actually more curious about the impact of our front door, which is more of a castle gate style: 125 by 225 cm (49 by 89 inches)... We’ll see...
Best regards,
Andreas

As always – if you like it, that’s what matters

Sebastian797 Mar 2016 19:32I found 2.10-meter (6 ft 11 in) doors a bit awkward, especially with 2.72-meter (8 ft 11 in) ceilings, so we chose 2.32-meter (7 ft 7 in) doors there.
For the entrance area, the dimensions are 3.11 by 2.50 meters (10 ft 2 in by 8 ft 2 in), with the door being one meter (3 ft 3 in) wide.

I am surprised by how many people are building 260 square meters (2800 square feet) or more. I would have liked that too, but due to building regulations and our budget allocation, it wasn’t possible.
Out of curiosity, do you know how much extra it cost you compared to the standard 240 or 250 square meters (2600 or 2700 square feet)?

We didn’t have it as an explicit additional cost – for us, it was basically a single row of bricks; I would guess it wasn’t that much. I also believe that a thickness of around 2.5 meters (8 feet) is more commonly standard – at least that’s what most general contractors usually offer.

It would have cost extra to build it with lower ceilings.
(The amount is unknown; I did not ask further at the time).
Slightly higher costs were caused only by the taller interior doors, directly compared to the standard height ones (a total of less than 1000 euros).
