Hello.
I am considering having a well drilled. Does anyone have experience with this?
Is it worth it? If so, after how many years, assuming it will mainly be used for garden irrigation?
Does anyone know about the costs? So far, I only have approximate prices (about 90-100€ per meter drilled).
Of course, I don’t know how deep the groundwater is.

For us, it was worth it with about 80 sqm (860 sq ft) of garden when we still had a lot of bamboo. In summer, you could easily use half a cubic meter of water per day just to irrigate the bamboo. From around 300 sqm (3,230 sq ft) of garden, almost everyone here has a well.

Perhaps everyone should decide for themselves, depending on how much they want to plant and water. As I mentioned, my water barrel is sufficient for irrigation, and then an additional 5 cubic meters (cbm) per year goes to the lawn if there is a very long dry period.

Nowadays, hardly anyone comes by to read the meter anymore – a clear sign of cost-cutting measures.

I could (still) even bypass the electricity meter and it would never be noticed... but the angel is still stronger than the devil. Still

My meter was already read after the first year. In addition, the utility company thoroughly inspected everything before the water connection. So, I probably don’t live in a modern home.

Looks like it. Here, in three rounds and also in Brandenburg (I don’t have more experience), no one shows up anymore...

And no one checked anything beforehand here either.

I then mistakenly assumed that this is no longer being done. But I had written “normal” after all – there are always exceptions.

Perhaps the population density is higher here in NRW, making it more worthwhile.
It is just bad advice to do something like this and then still get inspected. Therefore, it is best to check with your local building environment beforehand.
