Hello.
I am considering having a well drilled. Does anyone have experience with this?
Is it worth it? If so, after how many years, assuming it will mainly be used for garden irrigation?
Does anyone know about the costs? So far, I only have approximate prices (about 90-100€ per meter drilled).
Of course, I don’t know how deep the groundwater is.

I agree with that. We were advised against it based on this argument.

Groundwater for toilet flushing – this should only be used if it is deep groundwater and after appropriate preliminary testing, for example, for iron content, otherwise you risk damaging your entire plumbing system. An investment of around 50-80€ is well spent. It would be unfortunate if the toilet suddenly turns brown and you have to clean constantly.
However, this must be done before the installation work, as using well water requires a second water circuit that also incurs additional costs.
@Sebastian79
What do you mean by deep groundwater? Our well’s water column starts at about 6m (20 feet), and the water is almost free of pollutants and minerals (at least regarding iron and similar substances that could damage the toilets).

Sebastian7922 Jan 2016 19:04I wouldn’t recommend that either.
By deep groundwater, I meant from about 5 meters (16 feet) down – depending on the load from agriculture, it could be deeper or shallower.
It should be a proper drilling because of sand and other solids, which will inevitably contaminate the system further.
