Hello,

I’ve been trying for a while to determine the space requirements in the utility room for a central ventilation system. Could you name some common manufacturers? That might help me move forward.

We are currently planning the sizing of the utility room in the basement.

It will need to accommodate:

- Washing machine
- Dryer
- Gas condensing boiler
- Main unit of the central residential ventilation system
- Unclear: whether a water storage tank (connected to solar) will be installed there

Additionally, I’m interested in the space needed for a modern gas condensing boiler.

Thank you in advance.

Ours is suspended from the ceiling. So it requires virtually no floor space.

A controlled residential ventilation wall unit, which is what is typically installed, requires roughly the same space as a washing machine... a condensing boiler needs about half that amount.

Everything you listed we managed to fit into 4.5m² (48.4 ft²)... I wouldn’t recommend it, but that is roughly the minimum size for all that equipment...

So, we somewhat underestimated the space requirements for the brine-water heat pump. The unit itself is only about the size of a refrigerator, but it stands roughly 20cm (8 inches) away from the wall due to the piping. The heating circuit distributor is also positioned somewhat awkwardly in the room. The water main connection cannot be overlooked either – well, everything is close to the floor, but it’s obviously not possible to fit a washing machine or dryer there.

Our utility room is 8sqm (86 sq ft) and will likely be quite full.

We have a large system from Vallox, which probably requires about 8m² (estimated, not measured) – Valloflex 510SE.

If an electrical connection is also included, it is important to consider that safety clearances may be required, as well as working space/room for technicians to perform maintenance on heating and ventilation systems without having to remove the drywall from the area.
