Hello everyone,
We have purchased a terraced house built in 1990 and unfortunately need to replace the old wooden windows.
Now we have the following questions: double-glazed or triple-glazed insulation? It is often said that the wall should insulate better than the window. According to the original building description, our exterior walls are made of 30cm (12 inches) thick thermal insulation bricks (see photo) and built with insulating mortar. But what is the exact U-value???
Or would you recommend insulating the facade before replacing the windows?
Can you recommend a window manufacturer with a good price-performance ratio? Currently, we are leaning toward plastic windows.
Thank you for your feedback.
Best regards

What exactly makes the windows in need of replacement?
What have the neighbors done regarding this (windows, façade)?

SchaeffnS6 Jan 2021 10:54We had a similar problem. We called in a window specialist. The windows were adjusted, some seals were replaced, a few new roller shutter straps, and a new handle on the patio door. That was all; the windows are still in good condition and no more drafts. Conclusion: have a professional take a look.

We already have new seals – but on some windows, they don’t help anymore. You’re not referring to those self-adhesive foam strips, are you? Those hardly help at all, especially if the sashes are misaligned. Why don’t you take some photos?
