I have been wondering why some Brimnes bed frames from IKEA squeak even when properly assembled and apparently undamaged. These noises often occur with movement, such as when turning in bed or sitting on it. Since I really like the bed, I would like to understand what exactly causes these squeaking sounds. Is it due to the choice of materials, the construction, or perhaps assembly errors that are not immediately visible? Are there specific parts of the frame more prone to such noises, for example the connections between the slatted base and the frame or the screw joints? I look forward to your experiences and advice, as I may try to fix the problem myself before contacting IKEA customer service.

Here is a simple guide to effectively stop the squeaking in the Brimnes bed frame:

1. Carefully remove the mattress and the slatted bed base.
2. Systematically tighten all screws with the appropriate screwdriver or Allen key – not too tight, but firm enough to feel secure.
3. At the contact points between wood and metal, apply felt pads or thin foam strips. These reduce friction and dampen noise.
4. Rub the screws and threaded holes with some wax, such as candle wax.
5. Replace the slatted bed base and mattress, then check if the bed still squeaks.

Important: Repeat this process every few months, as the screws can loosen again from sleeping and movement in the bed.

These steps have worked well for me and other bed users.
