Hello everyone, I am currently facing an issue with my new BILLY shelves from IKEA. I noticed that some of these shelves are missing screws or connectors, which makes assembly much more difficult or even impossible. My specific question is: Are there known reasons or common causes for missing screws or connectors in some BILLY shelves? Is this something IKEA does intentionally, are there manufacturing or packaging defects, or is it more related to transport and storage? I would like to understand how often this problem occurs for others and what the best way to handle it is. Thank you in advance for your informed responses!

I emphasize the recommendation to always report missing partsExactly, the mass manufacturer needs feedback to systematically identify and fix sources of errors. This way, the next customer also benefits from improved quality control.

A thorough inspection before assembly is essential. Replacement shipments from IKEA are well-established and handled smoothly.
Common causes include parts lost during transport, packaging damage, or manufacturing issues. Deliberate omission of parts is neither documented nor officially known and is highly unlikely.

1. Compare the parts list with the contents of the packaging
2. Check the packaging for any damage
3. Report missing parts in writing to IKEA
4. Wait for replacement delivery, and in case of major damage, cancel the purchase
This procedure minimizes frustration and prevents unnecessary delays during assembly. Simultaneous documentation also makes later claims easier.

Thank you very much for the numerous responses and detailed explanations! The advice about thorough checks before assembly was very helpful, as was the assessment that missing parts are almost always due to process errors and not intentionally left out.
I will carefully inspect my packaging again and request replacement parts from IKEA. If anyone has specific tips on how to obtain replacement parts quickly and smoothly, I would greatly appreciate any advice!

If anyone has specific tips on how to get spare parts quicklyRecommendation: It’s best to contact the spare parts hotline or use the contact form on the IKEA website as soon as you notice a part is missing. Photos are not usually required, but providing the exact model number and the missing part number from the instructions helps speed up the process.
Some IKEA stores also have spare parts cabinets or displays. Often, you can pick up the parts directly there, especially for standard connectors. Otherwise, the parts are sent by mail promptly.
Patience is important, but the service is generally well organized.
