Hello,

I will be moving soon and wanted to know: if I hire a moving company now and something gets stolen or “lost,” who is responsible for the liability?

I can’t help you directly, but one of my friends had his Rolex stolen during a move. In this case, it wasn’t a problem because he still had the certificate and was able to resolve the issue with Rolex and his insurance.

When moving, you need to make a COMPLETE inventory and document it. You can then hold the mover responsible in case of loss of valuables.

This is how we handled it as well. We created an inventory list of our belongings. Although nothing was stolen in our case, some items were damaged, and the carrier’s insurance covered it because we had the inventory list. It might have ended differently without it.

Hello Hamburger,

First of all, you need to make an inventory of your belongings. It is not only about what is lost but also what might get damaged. Once you have a list of your items, the moving company will cover the damages that have occurred.
