Hello everyone, I have a specific question regarding furniture assembly: Which tools are specifically needed to properly adjust the doors of an Ikea Hemnes wardrobe? It is important to me to align the doors so that they close smoothly and do not hang or sit unevenly. I am familiar with the basic adjustment options on the hinges, but which screwdrivers or other tools are actually required for this? Also, are there any tips to watch out for in order to avoid warping or damage? I look forward to any detailed advice, including brief explanations on the best way to proceed.

A great tip from me: definitely use a screwdriver with a rotating handle – it makes screwing much easier.

Absolutely right, todunar! Especially for longer adjustments, it really improves comfort. Anyone who frequently assembles flat-pack furniture often invests in ergonomic screwdrivers like these.

If you have really stubborn screws, a small cordless drill with adjustable torque can help, but use it carefully!

This is important to emphasize, as too much force can damage the pre-drilled holes in the wood. So always set the torque low and work gently.

I would like to raise a critical question here: It is often recommended to use only the PH2 Phillips screwdriver – but is that really always sufficient?

Ikea uses different types of hinges in various series (depending on the production year and version), and some require Torx screws. Therefore, it is worth checking exactly which screws are installed before making any adjustments. A universal screwdriver with interchangeable bits might be the better choice in this case.

Additionally, I have some doubts about frequent readjustments without investigating the root causes: If doors have to be readjusted constantly, it could be due to the cabinet’s placement (uneven floor) or stress on the wood surfaces caused by humidity. Wouldn’t it make sense to address these underlying issues first? Just a thought.

Thank you, Josefane, that’s an interesting point. In my case, they do seem to be the standard Phillips screws, but I will definitely double-check before starting any adjustments.

That’s actually a new aspect for me to consider. The cabinet is standing on laminate flooring, which is slightly uneven, and the apartment does experience varying humidity levels. I thought just adjusting the hinges would be enough, but perhaps I need to look at the overall issue more holistically.

Many thanks to everyone who has replied so thoroughly and helpfully!
