Hello everyone, I’m currently planning to assemble my new Ikea Hemnes built-in wardrobe myself and am wondering which tools are truly essential for the assembly. Ikea usually provides a small hex key, but from experience, that is often not enough to put the furniture together efficiently and neatly. I’m especially interested in the tools that are best suited for properly fastening the various wooden parts, hinges, screws, and mounting rails. Are there specific drills, screwdrivers, or other aids that you definitely shouldn’t be without when assembling the Hemnes wardrobe? I want to have everything ready in advance to ensure the assembly goes as smoothly as possible.

As a complement to the previous discussion: For the Ikea Hemnes, it’s also advisable to have a file or fine sandpaper on hand. Sometimes wooden parts or edges fit in such a way that small unevenness can make assembly difficult or cause doors not to close perfectly.

A small rubber mallet is useful and helps prevent damage when inserting dowels or wooden plugs.

Additionally, a good light source is important – not everyone has a perfectly lit assembly area. This can help avoid mistakes.

The tool kit should also include:
- A tape measure to ensure everything fits
- Possibly pliers in case screws are accidentally inserted at an angle

This way, you are prepared for unexpected small issues.

Based on the previous posts, here is a brief summary of the essential tools needed for assembling the Ikea Hemnes built-in unit:

- Appropriate hex key or hex key set (ideally a ball-end hex key)
- Cordless drill/driver with a Phillips bit attachment (for PH2 screws)
- Spirit level or leveling device
- Rubber mallet for dowels and wood joints
- Drill with a small wood bit if needed

It is important to set the correct torque on the drill/driver to avoid over-tightening. This ensures stability and prevents damage.

If assembling the unit in an uneven corner, using a spirit level will save time and reduce frustration. These tools should be available in any well-equipped home workshop.

For assembling the Ikea Hemnes, I recommend a cordless drill, Phillips screwdriver, spirit level, and rubber mallet. The tools provided are usually just temporary solutions.

Additionally, I would like to emphasize the importance of precisely adjusting the doors. Many people underestimate how crucial a good Phillips screwdriver is for this task.

I also found a good screwdriver important for properly adjusting the hinges; it can be fiddly and requires some finesse.

The right screwdriver not only provides better grip control but also prevents damaged screw heads, making later adjustments easier.

It is also worth sorting all parts before assembly and having your tools organized in one accessible place. This way, you won’t lose energy during construction and can work more efficiently.

As a final tip: if you need to place the cabinet on an uneven floor, try stabilizing it beforehand with small wooden strips or felt pads. Sometimes this is more important than a perfectly level measurement.
