Hello everyone, I am about to assemble the Ikea Brimnes furniture and want to make sure I have all the necessary tools ready before I start. Could you please provide a detailed list of the tools that are absolutely essential for assembling the Brimnes? I’m not looking for general advice, but rather as complete a list as possible so I don’t find out halfway through the assembly that something is missing. If it’s relevant, it would also be helpful to know whether any special Ikea tools are needed or if standard tools from a home toolkit will suffice. Thanks in advance for your help!

So, I used a cordless drill and set it to the lowest torque setting. This way, you can work more precisely and avoid over-tightening the screws – which is really important, otherwise the wood fibers can easily tear. Magnetic bits are very practical! They hold the screws in place, so you don’t have to keep fiddling with them. It really saves you time and frustration. Give it a try, it makes the assembly much more enjoyable!

I think the whole hype around the cordless screwdriver is a bit overrated. If you want to assemble the Brimnes properly, you should use a regular screwdriver. This way, you can directly feel the resistance and tighten the screws much more precisely – which is better for stability. Honestly, who wants furniture that wobbles after a few years just because they were too lazy to screw properly?

Oh come on, that’s a matter of opinion! Sure, using a screwdriver is more precise, but a cordless drill saves a huge amount of time and effort, especially if you build furniture often. For the Brimnes, you just need to handle the torque correctly – then there are zero problems! A bit of fun while working is allowed too, isn’t it? 🙂

Regarding the tool list: You won’t manage without a Phillips PH2 screwdriver. A hammer is only needed for the wall plugs, and the hex key is included in the package. Magnetic bits are not essential but do improve handling. A cordless drill can make assembly easier, but it is not required.

One more question about the hammer: Is there any advantage to using a rubber mallet instead with this piece of furniture? Or are regular metal hammers essential due to the wooden dowels? I don’t want to cause any damage, but I also want to avoid applying unnecessary force that could harm the material.

A rubber mallet can be an option if you already have experience with furniture assembly and know how much force is needed. However, it delivers less impact than a metal hammer, which can make inserting wooden dowels more difficult, especially if they fit tightly. A standard wooden mallet or a light metal hammer is more suitable, as the impact is transferred directly into the wood without requiring excessive force. Important: Always tap gently to avoid damaging surfaces.
