Hello everyone,

I have a somewhat more specific question that will probably interest those who are more familiar with IKEA Malm furniture:

Which replacement parts are most commonly needed for the Malm series when it comes to repairs or upgrades?

I am interested in both typical wear parts and components that often need to be replaced during moves or regular use. Are there common weak points to watch out for?

Thanks in advance for any well-informed tips and experience reports!

As a craftsman, I often encounter defective drawer slides from the Malm series. These roller or ball-bearing guides are particularly prone to failure due to frequent use.

Additionally, the mounting screws on the back panel often need to be replaced because they can easily tear out if installed incorrectly.

A comprehensive overview shows that, in addition to the drawer slides, small parts such as fastening nuts (also called cam locks) and connector screws are regularly needed.

These are used to join the individual wooden components and are often the cause of unstable furniture when they are damaged or lost.

Hi there 🙂

So far, I’ve mostly had to replace the drawer front fasteners on my Malm dressers – those small plastic clips that hold the front panel. They tend to break easily, especially if you frequently pull the drawers out and push them back in.

The rollers or sliding elements on the drawers are also often the first parts that need replacing.

A little tip if you hear squeaking: just apply some wax to the tracks before ordering any parts 😉

Typical are the white plastic end caps on the drawer sides. These tend to become brittle and break quickly. Replacement parts are easily available from Ikea.

I can only agree with Mariah.

These small clips on the drawer fronts are actually the weak point of the Malm dresser.

Especially if you tend to open the drawers a bit too enthusiastically, they tend to fail prematurely. 😉
