Hello,

Today, the floor installer was at our place and brought samples from Joka. He had samples from the Deluxe series. The price per square meter is between 95 and 70 Euro (approximately 9.5 and 7.0 USD). Recently, I also looked at an Admonter floor, which was great, but it seemed less durable to me.

What type of parquet flooring do you have or recommend? Price up to 120 Euro per square meter (approximately 12 USD).

Regards,
Matthias

Varnish is cheaper than oil.

Oil needs to be reapplied regularly.

With varnish, the floor would be more resistant.

Actually, it seems unreasonable to paint such a floor; I believed this is no longer common practice today.

Oil or wax also has the advantage over paint that it can be repaired locally. With paint, the entire surface always needs to be sanded down and repainted. Besides that, oiled or waxed parquet flooring is clearly more attractive than painted.

Why not? By today's standards, there are non-toxic paints available.

That may be true. But you completely seal the surface of the wood, destroying its natural structure. Oiled wood remains alive and, as my predecessor said, looks significantly more attractive.

I know that 20 years ago, painting was still the standard. Nowadays, I didn’t even know it was still done.

It was said to be more resistant. Oiling can also be done later after sanding.

I’m not sure if it’s because the finish wasn’t applied properly, but compared to old parquet flooring, it definitely looks untreated. Old parquet has a thick, visible layer of finish, which we don’t have. The finish is supposedly still the usual type. There’s not much more you can do than get advice from a specialist store and have it installed by professionals.
