Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to assemble my new Ikea Hemnes wardrobe and would like to benefit from your experiences. What common mistakes should be definitely avoided when assembling Ikea HEMNES furniture? I would especially appreciate tips that go beyond the standard assembly instructions – things that can cause problems if overlooked, such as stability issues, correct alignment of parts, or particular assembly steps that are especially tricky.

Thanks in advance for your advice! Maybe someone has faced major difficulties before or knows tricks to make the assembly easier and safer.

Hello REMZIFE,

your question is very good, because although the HEMNES wardrobe is not a high-end piece of furniture, careless assembly can quickly lead to problems. I will summarize what you should pay attention to during assembly to ensure the furniture is stable and lasts in the long run:

- Do not screw too tightly, but also not too loosely. Over-tightening can damage the wood material and cause breaks later on. This is especially true for the back panels.

- Assembly order: Always start with the frame and side panels before installing shelves or doors, otherwise fitting problems may occur.

- Always attach the back panel accurately and evenly. Twisting while screwing can result in crooked furniture.

- Check alignment with a spirit level: It is essential for the HEMNES that the doors and drawers are properly aligned, or they will not close flush.

- Brand and delivery defects: Inspect all parts for damage or warping before assembly. If small parts are missing, it is better to contact IKEA directly, as incorrect instructions are rare, but issues can arise from missing parts.

- It is helpful to sort and count all screws and fittings before assembly. This saves time and trouble if a part is missing.

Have you already started assembling, or do you want to double-check beforehand? Are there any specific parts of the HEMNES you find particularly tricky?

Hi,

Make sure that the connector holes are properly aligned and the dowels are correctly inserted. Sometimes you might think you can already attach the panel, but assembling too early can cause misaligned doors later on.

Also, keep the hinge screws loose until all doors are in place – only then tighten them fully to make adjustment easier.

To avoid common mistakes when assembling Ikea HEMNES, the following points are especially important:

- Following the specified order of assembly parts prevents later issues with fit and stability.

- Securing the back panel with the correct tightening torque is necessary to avoid deformation. The recommended torque for wood screws is approximately 1.5 to 2 Nm (1.1 to 1.5 ft-lb) as a general guideline.

- Using a spirit level during alignment is essential, as small inaccuracies can quickly add up for cabinet doors and shelves.

- The material of the HEMNES is solid pine, which requires careful handling of surface screw connections. Over-tightening can damage the particleboard and cause stability problems.

- Pre-assembly check: Inspect all components for deformations, such as warping in the side panels. These can become more pronounced during transport.

- It is advisable to read the instructions carefully and completely, since most errors occur when small details are overlooked.

If you have specific questions about individual steps, I’m happy to address them in more detail.
