Hello everyone,

Could you please help me decide which jointing material I can or should use for the concrete slabs?
  • The concrete slabs are walkway slabs (surface untreated), measuring 30 x 30 cm (12 x 12 inches) and 4 cm (1.5 inches) thick.
  • The joint width should be 4 mm (0.16 inches).
  • The terrace will be approximately 10 sqm (108 sq ft) in size and laid in a gravel bed.
  • The terrace will be covered with a fixed pavilion.
  • The jointing material should be dark brown in color.
  • The jointing compound should prevent weeds and ants.

Can we use a flexible variable joint mortar, especially designed for porcelain and stoneware tiles, for the jointing here?

Is it actually allowed to post links to products here?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,
Chippy

Hello tiborb

use VDW800.
Make the joints a bit wider.
No problems with weeds, ants, dirt, etc.

No issues with weeds, A

I just watched the video about the product: it really makes you want to redo everything or fill the joints with this material.

Weed-free with Dan Sand No Grow Top Lock. Swept in. Lightly watered, then let it sit. There is some cement in it, so it will harden. Top Lock and No Grow. It worked here.

For your information: I have decided to go with sand-based paving mortar after all. The joint compound dries and hardens by exposure to air. Simply sweep it in and compact slightly – done. I’m curious to see the results. I will report back once I can say something about the long-term effects.

Thanks for the advice.
