Hello everyone,

I am planning to get an Ikea Pax system and am looking for combinations that are both space-saving and functional. My room isn’t very large, and I want to make the most of the available storage without the wardrobe becoming too dominant.

So my question to you is: which Pax combinations have proven effective for you when it comes to taking up little space while offering as much storage as possible with well-designed shelves and drawer solutions? I’m particularly interested in how you have arranged the interior fittings to ensure order and clarity.

I look forward to your tips and experiences!

I was also advised to prefer hanging drawers over standard drawers. What has your experience been with them?

Hanging drawers are very flexible because you can easily take them out and rehang them. They are often useful as temporary storage while cleaning or reorganizing. It’s also easier to keep things tidy inside when you can hold the drawers in your hands.

In comparison, standard drawers at the lower part of the cabinet tend to be more robust and allow for larger storage space, for example, for thicker sweaters or blankets. So, a combination works well: hanging drawers for small items and standard drawers for bulkier laundry.

Regarding clothing rods: I recommend always leaving some clearance at the bottom for long garments. Often, having a single side with a long clothing rod is worthwhile at the 236 cm (7 ft 9 in) height. This creates a lot of flexibility.

Many users I know choose a combination of two cabinets, each 50cm (20 inches) wide and 236cm (93 inches) high, with a depth of 58cm (23 inches).

That is a very good choice if it fits your space. With the two 50cm (20 inches) units, you get 100cm (39 inches) of width and ample depth. Inside, there are always two hanging rods placed one above the other, a few drawers at the bottom for small items, and shelves next to them for folded clothes. This keeps the wardrobe functional and space-efficient.
