Hello everyone,

I am planning to get an Ikea Pax system and am looking for combinations that are both space-saving and functional. My room isn’t very large, and I want to make the most of the available storage without the wardrobe becoming too dominant.

So my question to you is: which Pax combinations have proven effective for you when it comes to taking up little space while offering as much storage as possible with well-designed shelves and drawer solutions? I’m particularly interested in how you have arranged the interior fittings to ensure order and clarity.

I look forward to your tips and experiences!

I recommend choosing the 50cm (20 inches) wide modules if space is limited. For the interior fittings, I often use clothes rails plus a few drawers for smaller items. This way, you make effective use of the height while still having enough compartments for organized separation.

Hello elenaleo,

your question about the Ikea Pax system is very well formulated and shows that you have already put a lot of thought into it. Especially for smaller rooms, I recommend starting with a shallow depth—around 35 cm (14 inches)—if you need less storage volume, but also considering frames with a 58 cm (23 inches) depth that offer more storage space, although they take up more room.

For the interior fittings, I would advise planning flexibly, for example with removable drawers and compartments that you can rearrange as needed. Using hooks and dividers can also help keep things organized. Sometimes it’s worth choosing a Pax with sliding doors instead of hinged doors if space is tight.

How large is your room exactly, and do you already have an idea of what needs to fit inside?

Thank you for your feedback! My room is about 12 square meters (130 square feet) with a ceiling height of approximately 2.4 meters (7.9 feet). The wardrobe should mainly store clothes, some shoes, and small items like belts, scarves, and jewelry. I also want to avoid having to empty everything out to reach items stored at the bottom.

Therefore, I’m thinking of an interior design combining drawers and hanging shelves that can be easily and quickly adjusted. Sliding doors are unfortunately difficult in my room due to the layout, as there isn’t enough wall space on the side. I was considering a width of around 100 to 150 centimeters (40 to 60 inches), but narrower is also fine if it makes more sense.

Are there any current or well-established combinations at Ikea that offer a good balance of depth, width, and interior organization?

Hello elenaleo,

with a room size of 12 sqm (130 sq ft), you can really make good use of the space with the right Pax combination. Many users I know choose a combination of two cabinets that are 50 cm (20 inches) wide and 236 cm (93 inches) high with a depth of 58 cm (23 inches). Although this is a bit deeper, it offers enough space for jackets on hanging rods and a comprehensive interior setup.

It’s important to plan the interior well, for example with pull-out drawers for small items, shelves for folded clothes, and divider boxes. You can also install hanging rods on two levels if you have a lot of shorter garments.

Another space-saving option is to use a 35 cm (14 inches) deep Pax cabinet combined with a standard depth cabinet. For example, you can store shoes or accessories in the shallower Pax, while using the deeper one for clothing.

Keep in mind that tall cabinets often make better use of the ceiling height than just wide modules when the floor area is limited. If you like, I can also share some example combinations that have proven successful.

That’s true, especially the interior fittings make a big difference with Pax in how well you can organize everything. Do you perhaps have examples of which combinations of interior fittings are particularly practical for shoes and small items? I was also advised to prefer hanging drawers over the standard pull-outs. What has been your experience with them?

Furthermore, I would be interested to know if normal hanging rods in two levels fit well in a wardrobe with a height of 236 cm (7 ft 9 in), or if there is then not enough wide space for long garments.
