GipulisI would like to start a comprehensive discussion on optimizing the Ikea PAX wardrobe system and specifically ask: Which additional components, whether from Ikea itself or third-party suppliers, do you recommend based on your experience for practical expansion and better space utilization? I am particularly interested in modular inserts, drawers, clothing rods, lighting, as well as any useful mounting or organizing mechanisms that can enhance both functionality and everyday usability. I currently use a combination of several PAX units and have a few inserts already, but I believe there is still more potential in various accessories, especially regarding organization, accessibility, and storage efficiency. I would appreciate it if you could share your recommendations with details or practical examples so that I and others can make targeted improvements to the PAX system.

Which additional components, whether from Ikea itself or third-party suppliers, do you particularly recommend based on your experience for practical expansion and better space utilization? That’s a good and very specific question. I find that with PAX, the difference between purely functional use and optimal system integration through accessories becomes clear. For example, Ikea’s internal shelves are useful but often too thin and unstable.
Therefore, I recommend high-quality shelves from third-party suppliers that are more stable and load-bearing. It’s also worth considering LED lighting with motion sensors – this greatly enhances usability, especially in dark rooms.
Modular drawer inserts that help organize are also important. However, I would remain cautious about using too many third-party products, as their fit is often not perfect.
Those who rely on a good combination of original parts and carefully tested alternatives will ultimately have much more satisfaction with PAX.

I don’t use lighting; it’s too complicated for me.I can understand that lighting as an add-on for PAX can sometimes seem intimidating, but the Ikea own LED system is actually quite easy to install and makes a big difference in everyday use. Especially for deep wardrobes where little natural light reaches inside, it has proven very effective for me.
I also recommend organizing with the PAX internal drawer inserts, which are sold separately. They help keep small items like accessories or underwear neatly arranged and always within reach.
Additionally, I have had good experiences with the so-called "Pultex drawer inserts," which are specifically designed for PAX and are more stable compared to some Ikea inserts.
For those who want even more flexibility, adjustable clothes rail systems—either from third-party suppliers or Ikea itself—allow installing individual rails that can be raised or lowered to accommodate longer and shorter garments appropriately.
In general, it is important to thoroughly check measurements and mounting options before purchase, so the components not only fit perfectly but also remain easy to use.
