Hello everyone.
I have a question about wood treatment. I built a beautiful large corner bench with a table. The whole setup is integrated into an elegant brushed stainless steel frame. I have received completely contradictory recommendations from professionals regarding the wood surface protection, ranging from open-pored stain to teak oil and even wood sealer. The corner bench is located in a covered outdoor area. It is made of wild oak, 40mm (1.6 inches) thick, glued laminated timber with continuous lamellae. Water hardly ever touches it, and if it does, it is at most from spilled drinks, indirect splash water, or humidity in autumn/winter.
The wood is currently untreated, quite light in color, and looks great. What would you recommend for treatment? The protection should be long-lasting but not ruin the wood grain (appearance) or darken/change it too much. However, it should be sealed enough to prevent moisture from the winter humidity from penetrating and causing the wood to warp. I’m really unsure about what the best option is. Oh, and it shouldn’t be overly toxic since the table is used for eating. Thanks for any advice.

Best regards,
RK
