Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Ikea Pax wardrobe doors. After assembling them, I noticed slight warping, especially in the lower part of the doors. The doors are slightly twisted, causing them not to close properly and, in some cases, to rub against the cabinet bodies. I have already adjusted the hinges several times, but this doesn’t seem to completely fix the distortion. The doors have not been excessively loaded nor stored in humid conditions. My question is: What practical solutions are there if Ikea Pax doors are slightly warped? Are there any special tricks to straighten or correct the warping without having to replace the doors entirely? I look forward to your experiences and tips.
Hello farsi44, I can understand your situation well, as warped Pax doors are unfortunately quite common. I recommend the following steps:
- First, remove the doors and check exactly where the deformation is located. Often the material is most affected at the edges or along the bottom.
- Then, carefully moisten the wood grain with a damp cloth and use an iron (medium heat) to gently press the door back into shape. This method works especially well with MDF-coated doors.
- Caution: The water must not be too hot, and the moisture should not be applied for too long, as this can cause the material to swell.
- Afterward, store the doors horizontally until they are dry to maintain their shape.
- Finally, check the hinges and readjust them as needed.
Some users also report using small washers on the hinges to position the door correctly. A tip: If you can do this without damaging the doors, it’s worth trying before ordering new ones.
I hope this helps you.

In your case, I would also check whether the warping is caused by uneven moisture absorption. PAX doors are usually made of MDF with a laminated surface, which can swell if exposed to too much water. If this is the case, gently sanding the doors often helps to remove the slightly raised area or to smooth out small unevenness. I recommend using fine-grit sandpaper (240-320) to avoid damaging the surface.
Additionally, I suggest adjusting the hinges on the individual stile and checking the doors with a spirit level or a straightedge when fully assembled – sometimes the warping is not in the door itself, but in the cabinet or the hinge installation.
If you have more details about the construction (door material, dimensions, how the hinges were adjusted), more targeted advice is possible. Especially with PAX, there are different versions, and some aspects can be optimized depending on the product.
Are the doors equipped with soft-close mechanisms? These dampers can also affect the closing function and should be considered.
Best regards.

The doors are slightly warped, which causes them not to close properly and sometimes rub against the cabinet frames. That’s really annoying! I had the same issue with a Pax wardrobe. What worked well for me was removing the doors completely and gently steaming the most warped areas using steam from a kitchen kettle. After that, I carefully reshaped the door by hand and let it dry lying flat.
It sounds simple, but the steam makes the material more flexible. Of course, you need to be careful not to soften or damage the laminate or veneer too much. If you want, you can test this method first on an inconspicuous spot.
And yes, don’t forget a bit of patience – it takes several hours to dry fully. But it was worth it for me. Good luck!
