Hello everyone,

I have a quick question to get a sense of the cost.

How much would it roughly cost to remove an old secondary entrance door made of aluminum, including disposal, and simultaneously install a new secondary entrance door made of plastic by a carpentry company?

The door should be a simple plastic secondary entrance door measuring 98 cm x 200 cm (39 inches x 79 inches).

Thank you!

I have a price for you from December:
Schüco secondary entrance door, brown foil finish, with lever handle set, mushroom head lock bolts, frosted glass, made of plastic, including installation and disposal of the old door: 1800 euros gross.

We paid a total of €2250 gross for the simultaneous replacement of all windows and a front door. However, this was for a secondary entrance door made of wood/aluminum, including laminated safety glass and RC2 security features (as well as a reed contact).

"Old side entrance door" I interpret as an indication of an existing building (pre-energy saving regulations), and apart from the thermal break between exterior and interior not yet installed, an old aluminum door has no disadvantages compared to a new aluminum door and, in my opinion, still remains superior in quality to a plastic door. The mentioned dimension is a stock size, so I would take advantage of a hardware store promotion rather than considering a carpenter.

In new constructions, I have heard several times now that regarding insulation and burglary protection, steel doors (thermally insulated and RC2 or RC3 class) are currently used as secondary doors. They are visually finished with paint in the desired look—done.

Price-wise, they seem to be a good alternative. With good thermal insulation and effective burglary protection, otherwise a rather expensive front door would be required as a secondary door.

I think the steel door costs more than a cheap uPVC door but less than an inexpensive front door.

Hmm, in new buildings from 2018, these are typical back doors. They are made of plastic, glass, and foil.
